Keeping the 20" iMac alive

I have a 20" G4 iMac that still works beautifully (even if the processor is starting to show its age). I'm researching to see if I can re-route the display's video leads from their location off the mother board, off to an externally mounted DVI connector (using the DVI spec to put the display's TMDS leads in the right pin locations), and run a DVI-DVI cable from my Macbook Pro to the iMac...using this still gorgeous 20" display as an external for the Macbook.
